Grandma runs half marathon to help brain injury survivors

Grandmother Sue Askham is competing in a half marathon to help brain injury survivors, despite only taking up long-distance running last year. Sue, who has two children and nine grandchildren, is running The Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon on Sunday February 18 on behalf of Headway Aylesbury Vale – even though she is currently hampered by an injured tendon in her right foot. Runner Tackles Marathon to Raise Funds for Headway

Bank worker Nicola Aldridge has completed a marathon to raise money for Headway Aylesbury Vale after a close relative suffered life-changing brain injuries in a fall down the stairs. Nicola, 42, from Monks Risborough completed 26 miles in the Chiltern Marathon on Sunday 11 September. She has already collected around £1,300 in sponsorship for Headway, an organisation which supports survivors of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Headway Aylesbury Vale has fantastic premises and a bumper lottery grant, so you may think life is perfect for the charity. But trustees are on the urgent look-out for more volunteers and more survivors of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), as well as additional funds so they can fully realise their potential in 2016. Actor Sir David Jason is urging the public of Aylesbury to get behind Headway Aylesbury Vale by sponsoring cyclist Mick Simmonds on his epic 900-mile ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
